Omar Hilal, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United Nations, has indicated that the Polisario Front’s silence regarding the events in Laayoune suggests their involvement in the incident. He stressed that Morocco has the international right to respond to any terrorist attack.

The Moroccan diplomat emphasized that the Kingdom does not accuse anyone while the authorities are conducting necessary investigations. He underscored that the indications point directly to one party, which is the Polisario Front. The Polisario Front issued a statement indicating its targeting of Laayoune.

Hilal also noted that the MINURSO forces quickly arrived at the scene of the incident, inspecting the explosions in civilian and industrial areas, and subsequently submitting a report to the United Nations.

The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom continued by mentioning that the explosions in Laayoune targeted civilian and industrial areas and had no military presence. The incident resulted in the tragic loss of a young Moroccan who had come from France, whose passing is regarded as a martyrdom.
