Colombia, the world’s leading cocaine producer, has set a new record in the production of this drug and the cultivation of coca in 2022, according to a report by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) released on Monday.
The report reveals that coca leaf cultivation increased by nearly 13% in 2022, reaching a record high of 230,000 hectares. Cocaine production, primarily destined for the United States and Europe, also significantly rose from 1,400 tonnes to 1,738 tonnes.
