Niger’s Military Declares Loyalty to Security Forces, Avoiding Internal Strife

The Nigerien military announced its allegiance to the defense and security forces that ousted President Mohamed Bazoum on Wednesday. The statement was signed by the Chief of Staff on Thursday.

Meanwhile, President Mohamed Bazoum, who is being held by rebel soldiers in Niamey, and his Foreign Minister, Hassoumi Massaoudou, rejected the coup that took place in Niger. In separate messages, they asserted that they still represent the legitimate authorities in the country.
