A heart-stopping accident on the road to Abuja nearly claimed the life of Marcus Onobun, a distinguished member of the House of Representatives. The incident occurred recently and left the politician with injuries, prompting his admission to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital for medical attention. Tony Aziegbemi, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, confirmed the news and provided reassurance that Onobun’s condition was not critical.
During the harrowing accident, Onobun, who formerly held the esteemed position of Speaker in the Edo State House of Assembly, sustained multiple fractures. However, despite the severity of the crash, he is reportedly responding well to treatment, alleviating concerns about his well-being.
Representing the Esan West, Esan Central, and Igueben Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Onobun was travelling along the Ekpoma-Abuja Highway when the vehicle he was in tragically veered into a ditch. The wreckage of the dark-brown Mitsubishi SUV showcased the extent of the impact, with a detached airbag system, shattered windshield, and a disfigured roof serving as a somber reminder of the perilous accident.
As Nigerians send their prayers and wishes for a speedy recovery to Marcus Onobun, the incident highlights the importance of road safety and reinforces the need for continued efforts to improve transportation infrastructure and enforce traffic regulations.
