The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aderemi Adeoye, has announced the successful arrest and detention of 11 suspects linked to various rape and defilement incidents reported within the past week.
In a statement released on Monday in Awka, the police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, conveyed the Commissioner’s concern over the escalating moral decadence in society and urged parents to be more vigilant about their children’s exposure.
One harrowing case involved a viral video showing a 19-year-old young lady subjected to gang rape by a group of boys in Orama-etiti, Anam, located in the Anambra West Local Government Area. Six suspects were apprehended through collaborative efforts between the police in Otuocha and the local vigilance group in the area.
The arrested individuals include Chinua Obikezie (17), Collins Ogbodo (19), Ifeanyi Chijoke (17), Abuchi Ikechukwu (17), Ezenwa Afam (18), and Sunday Okafor (27). However, three other suspects connected to the heinous act are still at large.
In a related incident, the Police, together with a local vigilance group in Abagana, apprehended three suspects on July 8 for the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl. The suspects identified are Chimezie Odugwu (21), Nnamdi Anodebe (19), and Jude Onua (48). Investigations revealed that the victim was wandering around Abagana Junction when Chimezie lured her to Nnamdi’s residence in the same locality, where both of them committed the assault.
