The authorities in Istanbul reported that the Turkish security forces managed to seize a billion counterfeit dollars in the city, and they arrested six people involved in this operation, including a Ghanaian citizen, and three Swedes.
According to the Istanbul Governor’s Office, “the security forces traced the suspects to a warehouse in Istanbul’s Cagathan district where they seized counterfeit $100 banknotes intended to be sent to African countries.”
The authorities carried out an inspection inside the suspects’ homes, enabled by the local media reports, and confiscated their money and jewelry. They also notified the Swedish and Ghanaian consulates.
According to the Istanbul Governor’s Office, the seized counterfeit money shipment is the largest in Turkey’s history.
