SA: Over 200 Sentenced to Life, Operation Shanela Yields Over 21,000 Arrests

National Police Commissioner General, Fannie Masemola, revealed yesterday during a media briefing in Klipgat, North West, that more than 17,000 suspects were apprehended for Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Femicide related cases from April to March. Additionally, over 200 suspects received life sentences for these heinous crimes.

Under the comprehensive initiative called Operation Shanela, which began over the weekend, more than 21,000 individuals have been arrested across the country. The arrests encompass a range of offenses such as murder, rape, and malicious property damage.

This operation has successfully led to the capture of 1,126 wanted suspects, 188 murder suspects, 219 attempted murder suspects, and 210 rape suspects.
