The African Institute of Islamic Finance (AIIF) has announced that the Senegalese capital Dakar will host the 8th edition of the International Forum on Islamic Finance in West Africa on the 12th and 13th of June, under the chairmanship of Senegalese President Macky Sall.

A press release from the organizers said that the meeting would be held under the theme “Islamic financing opportunities for the energy sector, oil, gas, and renewable energies”, adding that discussions would also focus on food sovereignty in West Africa.

The government of Senegal, the Islamic Development Bank, and the Operational Monitoring Office of the Emerging Senegal Plan are taking part in the organization of the forum, which aims to bring together private and institutional investors in Islamic finance with project developers in the fields of energy and food sovereignty.

This annual meeting of West African economic and financial decision-makers in the field of Islamic finance will also include a plenary session on Islamic Fintech, a fast-growing sector in the West African sub-region.

The same source added that Ivory Coast has been chosen as this year’s guest of honor, noting that the Ivorian Head of State, Alassane Ouattara, will be speaking at the opening ceremony alongside his Senegalese counterpart and the President of the IDB.

The previous edition of the West African International Forum on Islamic Finance was held at the Abdou Diouf International Conference Centre (CICAD) in Diamniadio from 20th to 21st June 2022 under the theme “Financing Major Infrastructure Projects through Islamic Finance”.
