Last Wednesday, the administrative court of Douala rendered a decision in favor of the inhabitants of the Dikolo district in Douala, who had been expropriated in May 2022, for the benefit of a private developer who intended to build a hotel complex there, granting them relief and opening the way to a possible return of the populations expropriated on these lands.

The approximately 2,000 expropriated inhabitants of Dikolo have tasted victory after the decree consecrating their villages as an “area of public utility” was canceled, after a little over a year of complaining and crying.

Patrick Moudissa Bell, the spokesman for the victims of Dikolo, expressed satisfaction with the decision, relief, and joy. The victims celebrated by dancing on the site and they hope that the perpetrators of the mafia will be properly punished.

However, the case is not completely over. Until they return to these lands, which they consider their “village”, there are still steps for the dikolois to go through.

“Today our expectations are clear, we expect us to return to our land correctly, continues Patrick Moudissa Bell. Arrangements should be made for us to be fully compensated for all the damages we have suffered. There has to be reparation. In the days that follow, we will get down to work, we will always mobilize, as we have always done. We are not going to give up and we will continue to fight. We have won part of the battle and we are now hardened to continue our fight”.

The expropriated residents of Dikolo intend to remain mobilized not only to return to their land but also to rebuild their village, destroyed a year ago.
