The Special Technical Committee of the African Union for Youth, Culture, and Sports, convened on Friday in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, welcomed Morocco’s hosting of the African Union Youth Headquarters during a high-level ministerial meeting.

Representing Morocco at the meeting was a delegation led by the Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, Mohamed El-Mehdi Ben Aissa, accompanied by the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Morocco to the African Union, Mohamed Arouchi.

The committee congratulated the Kingdom of Morocco for hosting the African Union Youth Headquarters and put forth a recommendation aimed at “rebuilding and strengthening the relationship between the African Union Youth and the African Union Commission, with the necessity of signing a memorandum of understanding between the two parties.”

In this regard, Ben Aissa stated that the outcomes of the expert meeting and the recommendation emphasizing the need to revive the relationship between the African Union Commission and the African Union Youth would enhance Morocco’s vision, led by King Mohammed VI, regarding youth issues. He further highlighted that it would strengthen the international presence of African youth and develop their experiences.

The minister added that the African Union Youth’s previous journey is seen as a natural course, and it is now essential to keep up with this youth organization. Morocco welcomes the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Union and the African Union Commission.

Moreover, the government official clarified to the African Ministers of Youth, Culture, and Sports that “Morocco signed a framework agreement with UNESCO last November, focusing on sharing Moroccan expertise in safeguarding world heritage with sub-Saharan African countries.

This agreement aims to enhance the capacities of specialists in the museum field to contribute to combating illicit trafficking in cultural properties, protecting cultural treasures, and promoting inventory and the role of museums for the benefit of African communities.”
