Cameroon: After the Murder of a Journalist in Bamenda, the Profession Denounces “Impunity”

A journalist was killed on Sunday, May 7th in Bamenda, a city in northwestern Cameroon, he was shot dead when he was in a coffee shop. While the investigation is ongoing, this new murder of journalists sheds light on the difficulty of exercising the profession in Cameroon, “a persistent situation”, according to the National Union of Journalists of Cameroon.

Marion Obam, the president of the National Union of Journalists of Cameroon (SNJC), expressed her dismay as she lamented the second journalist killed in a conflict zone, Anye Nde Nsoh. In her statement, she pointed out that Cameroon has become a place for impunity, where the rule of law is often ignored.

According to Reuters, he was the North West regional editor of The Advocate newspaper.

On January 22nd, the country had already been shocked by the discovery of the body of Martinez Zogo, in a state of decomposition and showing signs of serious abuse, in a suburb of Yaoundé.
