Following thorough investigations into illegal and unprofessional medical practices and conduct, the Anambra State Government has sealed off Saint Norbert Hospital in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area of the state. Authorities discovered that one of the doctors at the hospital, whose name was withheld, was involved in illegal activities, and has now fled, prompting the closure. A team of officials from the state Ministry of Health, led by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, carried out the closure.

Dr. Obidike announced the launch of a manhunt to apprehend the fleeing doctor. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to fighting against all forms of quackery in the health sector. The ministry found patients died due to unprofessional conduct at Saint Norbert Hospital.

Obidike vowed to bring the erring doctor, along with other culpable parties, to justice after completing the necessary investigations. The government will create a monitoring agency to strengthen healthcare. It will monitor personnel, and hospitals, and respond to complaints.

A female community member who spoke anonymously with journalists corroborated the allegation that patients have repeatedly lost their loved ones through the activities of quacks. She called on the state government to investigate the matter critically and provide a permanent solution to save people from untimely deaths.
