The Shehu Musa Yar’adua Airport in Katsina State, Northwest Nigeria, is set to undergo expansion as part of efforts to enhance economic development and security in the state. The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, made this known during the ground-breaking ceremony of the project in the state.

At the event, Senator Sirika emphasized the importance of cherishing the expansion of the Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport as a monument by the people of the state and Nigeria. He highlighted that the expansion will aid security forces in performing their duties in the Nigerian Northern region.

Senator Sirika said expansion ends overseas fire truck servicing, with a maintenance, overhaul, and repair center construction. Other key aspects of the expansion project include the construction of a cargo terminal, a new terminal building, and a runway.

The Minister stated that the expansion project would create job opportunities and improve the economy of Katsina. He disclosed that contractors have received 70% of the total funds allocated for the project, and the equipment for the maintenance overhaul and repair center of fire trucks is already on the ground. He expressed confidence that the project’s execution would not experience delays.
