A senior official with the state-owned Sudanese Mineral Resources Corporation told Reuters on Friday that a mine collapse in Sudan’s Northern state had resulted in the deaths of 14 miners and more than 20 injuries.
According to Moataz Hajj Nour, a mountaintop near the al Jabal al Ahmar mine, which is 70 kilometers from Wadi Halfa city, partially fell on Thursday, resulting in the fatal tragedy.
Numerous press outlets reported earlier on March 30 that witnesses said the collapse was actually brought on by miners using big machinery to dig for gold.
