Gunshots were heard around the national television station on Wednesday evening, near the Presidency of Faso. Witnesses claimed that an individual forced their way through the security barriers around the Presidency of Faso. However, the army has not disclosed any details about the identity of the individual or their motives.

The General Staff of the Burkinabe Armed Forces (EMGA) confirmed that the shots fired in downtown Ouagadougou were warning shots, intended to alert a reckless person. The army assured the public that the situation is under control and urged them to continue their activities peacefully.

In the past, the army has used warning shots to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive locations. Recently, in December 2022, a man was fatally shot by warning shots after breaking into the security of Air Force Base 511. In June of the previous year, the army fired warning shots at a vehicle attempting to break through a barrier near an airbase.
