In Senegal, despite the ban from the prefecture, the opposition coalition Yewwi Askan Wi maintained its call for demonstrations on Wednesday, March 29 in Dakar and Thursday during the trial of Ousmane Sonko, who sued for defamation by the Minister of Tourism. His previous summons on March 16 had caused clashes in the capital. In a context of great tension, justice denounced on Tuesday the existence of a group “aiming for insurrection”: “rantings”, according to Ousmane Sonko.

“During investigations, an organization called itself ‘commando’ appeared,” said the public prosecutor at the Dakar Court of Appeal. His targets, according to Ibrahima Bakhoum: are “public figures of justice, the state apparatus, religious and the press”.

Four people were arrested, including one who claimed to be part of the Casamance rebellion of the Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance (MFDC). 19 others are wanted for acts “jeopardizing the stability of the country”.

“Subversive activities ranging from the manufacture of explosive agents, smoke bombs, Molotov cocktails. And the purpose of all of this is to take brilliant action to install fear and chaos, and the fertile ground is the demonstrations,” said Ibrahima Bakhoum.
