Morocco and African Countries Share Common Values and Principles, Says Foreign Minister

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad, Nasser Bourita, stated that “the Kingdom of Morocco brings together, in North and West Africa, ties and relations that go deep in history, based on cultural, religious, economic and political foundations, characterized by fruitful exchange and interaction, and common denominators based on the values ​​of moderation.”  moderation, tolerance, openness to the other, and rejection of aggression.”

This comes in the minister’s answer to a parliamentary question addressed to him by the dynamic team in the House of Representatives, about “common denominators between Morocco and North African countries at the diplomatic level,” in which he affirmed that “these values ​​established a common vision in managing foreign relations, and many of these have adopted it.”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that Morocco is investing in principles of cooperation and joint action among African nations. The goal is to launch various initiatives that establish African diplomatic action at the international level.

For instance, Morocco hosted the first ministerial meeting of African-Atlantic countries in Rabat on June 8th, 2022, also working towards strengthening joint African action and promoting economic coverage, to achieve this, the country is creating an economic council for the countries of the Sahel and Sahara.

Additionally, activating the African Continental Free Trade Area is a top priority for Morocco, with the aim of increasing intra-trade levels among African nations.

The diplomatic official emphasized Morocco’s commitment to solidarity and cooperation with North and West African countries. Under the directives of King Mohammed VI, Morocco prioritized providing medical equipment and medicines to 15 African countries to assist them in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Moreover, the OCP complex granted donations of fertilizers to several African countries to help them address scarcity in the international market and increase their agricultural productivity.

Bourita further added that Morocco has been hosting conferences and forums to address pressing global issues, including terrorism and transnational organized crime, environmental challenges, food security, migration flows, and economic development. The objective behind these initiatives is to facilitate greater engagement and knowledge-sharing among participating nations and enable them to benefit from advanced international expertise in these critical fields.
