The South African soccer squad, Vakhegula Vakhegula, ran into the stadium to applaud before their opening match against team USA while donning blue tracksuits and carrying their country’s flag.

Flora Baloi, a 66-year-old striker who began competing in 2017 after beginning to experience severe arthritis, said that if she had not been involved in this activity, she “should have been restricted to a wheelchair.”

She claimed that as a result of her activity, she is no longer in need of medication.

The Granny’s Soccer World Cup is the first event of its kind, and it is being hosted by Vakhegula Vakhegula. The squad was founded in 2007 to promote the health of the community’s women, and it inspired the formation of additional granny teams throughout the nation.

At least 15 teams from South Africa and other nations, such as Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique, will play during the four-day competition.
