In Rwanda, Paul Rusesabagina’s prison sentence has been “commuted” by presidential order according to government spokeswoman Yolande Makolo.

Nineteen others convicted of terrorism also had their sentences commuted, according to the government, including FNL rebel Callixte Nsabimana. A decision is taken, according to the government, after considering their “leniency requests”.

President Paul Kagame had already paved the way for the release of Paul Rusesabagina in early March, saying in an interview that there were talks about the opponent’s imprisonment.
