Commenting on the context of increasing tensions between the two neighboring countries in the Maghreb since the rupture of their diplomatic ties in 2021, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune stated on Tuesday on Al Jazeera that Algeria’s relations with Morocco “have reached the point of no return,” justifying Algeria’s position as a reaction, saying “Our position is, therefore, a reaction.”

Regarding the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara territory, Tebboune added that “Spain took sides with secret actions in the file…We consider Spain’s position on the Sahara to be an individual position of the Sanchez government…The current Spanish government has forgotten that it is the former colonial power of Sahara, and its responsibility remains.”

“Our relations with France are fluctuating, but the Algerian ambassador will soon be back in Paris,” added the resident of Mouradia, who has fluctuating relations with the Elysée.
