French President Emmanuel Macron expressed during a meeting with Comoros President Azali Assoumani, his concern about the social and security situation in Mayotte.

This was announced in a press release from the Elysée Palace, stating that the two heads of state agreed to continue cooperation in the fight against illegal immigration.

Mayotte is the target of several African and Comorian migrants who try to reach this region, which has prompted the French state since 2019 to increase its means of fighting against this illegal immigration, particularly by strengthening the presence at sea of interceptor boats and air surveillance.

Thus, the French president and Mr Assoumani, who has been at the head of the African Union for a month, have expressed their joint desire to continue implementing the agenda resulting from the Europe-Africa summit in February 2022.
