The visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to the Democratic Republic of Congo does not seem to please all citizens.
Dozens of young Congolese protesters waved Russian flags outside the French embassy in Kinshasa on Wednesday against Macron’s planned visit, accusing him of supporting Rwanda.
The demonstrators shouted “Macron assassin, Putin to the rescue” while holding up placards saying “Macron godfather of the balkanization of the DRC”, “Congolese say no to France’s policy” or “Macron unwanted in DRC”.
One of the organizers of the demonstration justified the Russian flags by the fact that they no longer need France, but rather wish to collaborate with reliable partners, such as Russia or China.
It should be recalled that the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) accuses its neighbor Rwanda of supporting the M23 rebellion active in the east, which has been confirmed by UN experts despite Kigali’s denials.
