The Togolese government has rejected allegations of malfeasance in the management of the fund intended to fight the coronavirus epidemic, saying that the expenditure is “compliant, regular and sincere”.

The Court’s audit report revealed serious irregularities that sparked outrage in the West African country.

In a press release issued on Thursday evening, the Government is “pleased that this report recognizes as consistent, regular and honest spending related to barrier gestures, response or health measures”.

The Covid-19 Response and Solidarity Fund (FRSC) was set up by the government a day after the first coronavirus case was detected in March 2020. In particular, he received technical and financial support from international partners such as the European Union, the IMF, and even the World Bank.

Out of 108 billion CFA francs, which is almost 165 million euros spent in 2020, says the Court’s report, “certain payments (…) related to non-priority expenditure or not having direct links with the implementation of response measures against Covid 19”.
