The country’s finance minister, Madzme Peggy Serame, told parliament on Monday that Botswana is forecasting 4% economic growth this year.

This will be achieved by investing in infrastructure for the years 2023 and 2024 to unlock the constraints to economic growth.

The minister said the optimistic forecast is based on the good performance in the mining and non-mining sectors, especially the diamond, water, and electricity trade.

Botswana is considered a fast-growing economy in Africa. After gaining independence from the UK 60 years ago, it has moved from being a poor country to an upper-middle-income country.
