Clashes left at least 13 dead and 40 injured on Monday in Las Anod, a disputed town between Somaliland and Somalia.

According to some medical sources quoted by local media. the Fighting mentioned before broke out at dawn between government forces stationed around the town and local fighters.

The day after a proclamation by traditional chiefs that they no longer recognize Somaliland’s jurisdiction over their town. This town of Las Anod has been the subject of a dispute for years between the self-declared state, to the north, and the Somali state of Puntland, to the south.

It is noteworthy that Somaliland seceded from Somalia in 1991, but has failed to gain widespread international recognition for its independence and has faced opposition to its territorial claims over its eastern border with Puntland, one of Somalia’s semi-autonomous states.
