In Gabon, it is still an impasse on the side of the opposition. It did not reach a consensus to compose two lists of its members who must participate in the election of the new office of the Gabonese Election Center (CGE), the commission responsible for organizing the elections in Gabon. On January 27, 2023, the opposition submitted fifteen lists instead of two. Last Tuesday the Minister of the Interior granted an additional three days to the opposition to find a consensus, but nothing to do. It is a failure.

On the other hand, and according to a link belonging to the Interior Ministry, the opposition has submitted at least 8 lists. Two were submitted by the PSD, led by Pierre Claver Maganga Moussavou, and two more by the PG41 platform, led by Louis Gaston Mayila. Le Corp, a group led by Bonaventure Nzighou Manfoumbi, also tried two ruses. Lippades, another coalition of around ten parties, maintained their lists presented on January 27, 2023.

Hands-free

This lack of consensus leaves the Home Secretary free to choose nine names from different lists. Lambert-Noël Matha warned on Tuesday 31 January during a recent meeting with the opposition that he would be advised in the event of a blockade. In 2018, the opposition again failed to reach a consensus. The interior minister selected names from various lists to form a panel tasked with choosing the outgoing office of the Gabonese electoral center. The announcement by the Home Secretary will be made on Saturday 4 February.
