In Ivory Coast, artists in all disciplines combined have a legal status that was enacted by a decree in October 2021. But it must be refined with all the actors in this sector.

The aim of this reform is to structure the cultural sector, hitherto dominated by the informal sector. To professionalize it. A whole legal framework around the profession of the artist – from the performing arts to cinema or music.

It is planned to issue a professional card and therefore, upstream, to identify and list all the professions in this branch. Another novelty is the establishment of a minimum wage for each service. The amount has not yet been defined, but discussions have been launched with cultural actors.

“The decree provides that a minimum wage is indicated when artists have to perform and it is this work that must be done together because each artist has his specificity according to his sector”, specifies Françoise Remarck, Minister of Culture.
