The Senegalese President and current Chairperson of the AU, Macky Sall, gave an opening speech at the Dakar 2′ Feeding Africa’ Summit on the theme of food sovereignty and resilience in Africa, which is being held from 25 to 27 January at Cicad in Diamniadio.

During his speech, Macky Sall called on African states to focus on strengthening infrastructures for opening up and interconnecting borders, as well as storage, conservation, and local processing facilities.

In this sense, Macky Sall pointed out that the lack of adequate storage and conservation infrastructures causes Africa to lose around 40% of its harvests.

The Senegalese president indicated that these concrete actions will make it possible to improve access to markets, which is one of the pillars of the quartet established in the African quest for food sovereignty, along with support for small farmers, improved agricultural mechanization and the expansion of land and sustainable land management.

For his part, the president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwimi Adesina, lamented the high level of food imports by Africa despite its enormous agricultural potential.
