During his official visit to Burkina Faso, Guinea Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embalo, current chairman of the Economic Community of West African States, announced that ECOWAS is committed to supporting Burkina and “all countries in transition” in their fight against jihadist violence.

Umaro Sissoco Embalo added that ECOWAS is concerned about this phenomenon affecting several West African countries. Thus, he said that after the exchanges he had in Burkina with the president of the transition of Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traore, he understood what is really happening in this sense, hence the need to support this country.

Ibrahim Traoré has been in power since the coup d’état of 30 September 2022. At the end of his talks with President Embalo, both parties insisted on the need to continue this kind of exchange between ECOWAS member countries.

President Embalo concluded by saying that ECOWAS will support countries in transition, even those that are not part of the organization, as it is not there to sanction but rather to exchange and find solutions.
