19th edition of the Charjah Arab Poetry Festival: Morocco guest of honour

The Arab Poetry Festival of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, which is being held from 9 to 15 January, has known the participation of Morocco as a guest of honor. Morocco was represented by an official delegation led by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication -Department of Culture-, Abdelilah Afifi, who was received by Sheikh Sultan Ben Mohammed Al-Qasimi, member of the Supreme Federal Council of the United Arab Emirates.

This participation is part of strengthening cooperation relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Arab Emirates in the cultural field.

Besides Abdelilah Afifi, members of the Moroccan Embassy in the United Arab Emirates, the directors of the House of Poetry of Tetouan and Marrakech, Moroccan poets and critics participated in this event held at the great palace of culture in Sharjah.

During the opening ceremony of this event, several Moroccans won prizes: the two Moroccan critics, Abderrahim Wahbi and Mohamed Tahnaoui won the Charjah Prize for Arab poetry criticism while the poet Khadija Saidi and the poet Khalid Boudrif were among other 10 Arab poets who won the “Qawafi” prize.

On this occasion, Afifi highlighted the importance of Morocco’s participation in this Arab poetic and cultural event, while stressing the ministry’s determination to implement the partnerships linking Morocco and the various Arab countries.
