While South Africa is experiencing an exacerbation of the energy crisis and frequent power outages, the authorities decided to deploy the army around the power stations in order to avoid any sabotage.

The State electricity supplier Eskom said that the army had deployed to four locations.

The army’s deployment aims also to prevent sabotage and theft of coal and diesel from power plants.

The country has been witnessing regular power outages for 15 years, fifteen years ago, and the situation has deteriorated with daily power cuts for hours imposed by Eskom.

Moreover, this year’s power outages have cost the South African economy hundreds of millions of dollars, disrupting trade and industry.
