Vladimir Reis, 38, a Brazilian chef, who opened the Asian restaurant “Sim Sum Rio” almost two years ago in Rio de Janeiro.
Vladimir Reis has been named the winner of a new competition called the “Black Gastronomy Prize”, a contest that awards the best black restaurants in Rio in several categories.
In the previous edition of this competition, the Afro Gourmet restaurant, which serves African dishes in Grajau, a popular district of Rio, was awarded the best restaurant.
These African chefs believe that there is a strong African influence on Brazilian cuisine and are therefore increasingly making their mark in a country where blacks make up 54% of the population, but only 30% of management positions in companies.
