UNHCR expert to visit Morocco to review the government’s efforts to eliminate poverty

Morocco is awaiting the reception of the UN expert on extreme poverty and human rights, Olivier de Schutter, from 6 to 19 December, in order to review the government’s efforts to eliminate poverty.

The independent expert appointed by the UN Human Rights Council to monitor, report and advise on poverty and human rights, De Schutter, said that Morocco also has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and high inflation, Which made Morocco progress in the fight against poverty.

He stressed that his visit in December will be an opportunity to present recommendations to the Moroccan government on how to protect the most vulnerable countries from the crisis.

The UN expert added that he will be closely briefed on how the social protection system protects people living in poverty, and how it can strengthen to bridge the country´s deep wealth gap.
