Morocco’s Jewish Community: All About New Institutional Provisions Created by Royal Decree

The new organization of Morocco’s Jewish community is becoming more and more defined. The decree establishing the National Council of the Moroccan Jewish Community was published in the final issue of the Official Gazette.

King Mohammed VI during the session of the Council of Ministers chaired on 13 July 2022. His message was to reorganize the institutions governing Morocco’s Jewish community.

Three of his organizations were established, which are the National Council of Moroccan Jewish Communities, the Commission of Moroccan Jews Abroad and the Moroccan Jewish Foundation. In a statement issued after the decision, Serge Verdugo, general secretary of the Israeli Community Council in Morocco, said that all these measures taken after consultation with qualified representatives of the Jewish community emphasized that they were following the wishes of Moroccan Jews.
