Italian doctors perform for the first time in the world a liver transplant from a dead donor over a hundred years old, according to the Italian National Center for Organ Transplantation.

The donor has long allowed the use of her organs for the benefit of needy patients.

Her liver was transplanted to a patient at the University of Pisa clinic, after receiving the organ from the “Florentine San Giovanni di Dio” hospital and carrying out all the necessary medical and legal procedures.

In this regard, the director of the Confederation said that the event is exceptional, which demonstrates the technical and organizational capabilities of Italian transplants, especially the use of organs from elderly donors.

He added: “There are no cases of donating whole organs from people who died and their age exceeds a hundred years at the international level.”
