The services of the International Monetary Fund (FMI) said, Friday in Rabat, that the gradual decompensation of certain products would lead to targeting of the precarious population and thus ensure the effectiveness of social programs.

Speaking at a press conference held after a consultation mission with Morocco, the FMI team recalled that the government plans to move towards a direct targeting of the precarious population, welcoming in this sense “this direction to ensure the effectiveness of social programs”. They also stressed that strengthening the resilience of the Moroccan economy in a context of limited fiscal and monetary manoeuvres and exceptional uncertainty, calls for the acceleration of the implementation of structural reforms.

In this sense, FMI officials said that “significant progress” has been made in expanding social protection, in addition to deep reforms in health and education systems that should improve access to services, and their efficiency and quality. During this consultation mission with the Moroccan authorities, held from 24 October to 4 November 2022, talks were held with senior government officials, Bank Al-Maghrib, as well as representatives of the public and private sectors.
