“visages”: A Cultural programme Focus on interculturality between Spain and Morocco

After a postponement in 2020 due to the health crisis of Covid-19, the cultural program «visages», returns as part of the 3rd edition of this event aimed at strengthening cultural ties between Spain and Morocco.

A press release from the Cervantes Institute in Rabat states that this event will take place between October and December 2022 to highlight the historical and cultural ties between Spain and Morocco and the centuries-old fraternal relations between the two countries.

Initiated by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Spain, «visages» is organized in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy in Rabat, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the network of Cervantes Institutes in Morocco, with the support of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication of Morocco, the National Museum Foundation and various Moroccan cultural institutions.

The third edition of «visages» is particularly innovative with a program that aims to present the different traditional and modern cultural expressions in Spain, explains the press release, He added that it also includes a series of artistic events including exhibitions, concerts of flamenco and jazz music, shows and workshops of performing arts, in addition to lectures and literary meetings.

Also youth arts events, including workshops for children and lectures for students, as well as folk music festivals, says the same source, noting that the various activities planned for this edition “illustrate the interculturality between Spain and Morocco and the multiple aspects of the common heritage between the two countries and reflect the importance of Spanish-Moroccan cultural cooperation.”

For this purpose, the public will meet with various artists including the dancer María Pagés (National Dance Prize 2022), the visual artist Nuria Vidal, the creator Manuel Fernández and the photographers Fernando Manso and Nicolas Muller.

Note that the first edition of «visages», which coincided with the celebrationn of the 25th anniversary of the treaty of friendship, good neighborliness and cooperation between the Kingdoms of Spain and Morocco, was organized in 2016 through a series of cultural activities in seven Moroccan cities: Rabat, Marrakech, Tétouan, Casablanca, Fez, Tangier and Agadir.

Similarly, in 2018, the second edition of this biennial took place in twelve cities: Agadir, Casablanca, Fez, Kénitra, Larache, Marrakech, Nador, Oujda, Rabat, Salé, Tangier and Tétouan.
